Elegant set of prints contrasting the view of the solar system derived from the Holy Scriptures to the opposing view of Newton. The Muggletonians were a small English religious sect that objected to modern science, in particular heliocentric astronomy and Newtonian physics. Founded in the 1650's by two cousins who received "messages from God" that they were God's chosen witnesses prophesied by the Book of Revelations to preach to the ungodly world in its final days. The sect lasted well into the Victorian era. The producer of these prints, Isaac Frost, was a scientist and prominent member of the sect.

These charts are authentic Baxter prints, printed in color by a patented process using oil pigments. While producing beautiful gradations of color, it was far too expensive to use commercially. These prints are among the scarcest of known Baxter prints, meant to be circulated only among members of the sect. Besides being scarce, they document the historic tension between religion and science.

Minor browning of paper at edges and minor marginal foxing. Images are quite clean. Published in London.
