Classic Levasseur treatment; smaller map (8" x 9") embedded in very elaborate engraved scenes about the people, animals and plants of the subject region. Overall image size is 11" x 17". Interior of Africa has much speculation of the past eliminated. Extensive detail of more costal regions. Original hand color distinguishes boundaries as they were understood at the time. Eleven regions contained in population table at left. Interesting reference for the time. Nice dark impression, generous full margins. Faintest of age toning, much brighter than often found. Published in Paris about 1850.
