Visscher's striking map of the world in double hemisphere, taken from the Dutch "Staten" bible "Biblia Dat De Gantsche H. Schrifture" published in 1710 by Peter & Jacob Keur, Rotteerdam.
California as an island, flat top configuration. Anian appears northward on a suggested island, seperated from North America by the "Straet Anian". Greenland connected to North America. A huge inland sea is suggested, feeding eth St. Lawrence River. No grat lakes. Partial New Zealand and "Hollandia Nova", the latter being conntected to New Guinea, also partially defined. Numerous evolving features of the time.
Map is richly embellished with sailing ships and an elaborate engraving of 4 female forms representing the major regions of the world. These nobel women are set in scenes of local animals, mystical tools, and insturments.
Dark impression on sturdy paper. Folds as issued. Light toning on margins, image is bright and clean.
