Novus Planiglobeii Terrestris Per Utrumque Polum Conspectus
VALK, Gerard

Price: $9,800.00
Date: 1695
Condition: Very Good
Size: 16" x 21"

Striking map of the world on Polar projection. Originally by Bleau, his last world map before the tragic fire that destroyed much of his work. Greenland connected to North America, "Anian" noted in northwest, California as an island with "Nova Albion" at top. Quebec noted in the east, as is a large un-named great lake.  The west names several supposed Spaish settlements. Partial Austraila firmly attached to New Guinea, west coast of New Zealand shown. No hint of Antacrtica. A wonderful map to study and admire. Original hand color, very nice. Single fold as issued. Framing tap at top margin, well away from image. Published in Amsterdam, 1672-1673 Bleau map with issue by Valk c1695.
